He's Still Working On Me
Remember the Family Circus cartoon? Little Billy and his wanderings? He had a goal in mind, whether it was taking the mail to the box for mom before the mailman got there or getting another log for the fire before it went out, but he just managed to get off track. Things just didn’t quite work out the way they were initially planned.
How could it possibly take that long to walk to the mailbox? I guess he just got a little distracted.
There are lots of times when I feel that’s how my spiritual development goes. I would think that after 22+ years since being baptized, I would be a lot farther along. I guess I get distracted. That’s why I have titled the message today “He’s still working on me”. Because even though I get distracted once in a while, I know from scripture that, thank God, He is patient and He helps me get back on track. I am getting better at recognizing the distractions and moving on.
You see, our spiritual walk is a journey, and with any journey, we stop along the way to take stock or evaluate how we are doing. We find there are three conditions that are always changing.
Where we’ve been
Where we are
Where we’re going
